The Millard Lionhearts are a youth girls feeder program teaching player fundamentals to competitive skills. No experience is needed. Most of our girls have never picked up a stick, and that is exactly who this season is built for. Equipment needed are goggles, stick, and mouth guard. We also do not want cost to prevent anyone from starting and will have sponsorships and loaner equipment available.

You do not have to live in Millard. Girls from any school, district, or community are welcome. Omaha, Papillion, Gretna, Bennington, Bellevue, homeschool, and private school families are all part of the Pride.

Our main season is in the spring. This fall is the head start, so she walks into March already knowing the fundamentals and her teammates.

FALL PRACTICE SCHEDULE

All practices at Heartwood Preserve greenspace, Omaha.

Gold Band, Grades 3 to 4
5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
One focused hour built for younger players.

Purple Band, Grades 5 to 7
5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
The same hour, plus 30 minutes for plays and scrimmage.

Please note practice 2 falls on a Tuesday. Every other practice is a Monday.

HOW PRACTICE WORKS

Every practice follows the same rhythm so the girls always know what is coming: a team circle, a warm up, skill stations grouped by age, one rule of the game taught in kid language (we play under the USA Lacrosse Girls Youth Rules), small sided play, and a team game at the end. Skills build week to week, so what she learns on August 31 is still being used on October 19.

The Purple Band uses its extra half hour to learn plays and scrimmage. For girls who want more competition than practice provides, we are working on additional competitive play this fall and will share those details with registered families as they are confirmed.

SEASON FEE

$75 for the season, covering all seven practices, coaching, a numbered team pinnie that is hers to keep, scrimmage play, and our full fundamentals curriculum.

No equipment? Not a problem. We can provide loaner sticks and gear. Cost should never be the reason a girl does not get to play. Reach out to Coach Mel at meier@nebraskalacrosse.com for sponsorship information (All inquiries and needs for sponsorship will always be kept private).

USA LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP: PARENT INSTRUCTIONS

Every player needs a USA Lacrosse membership, paid directly to USA Lacrosse. It is separate from the team fee, and it is what provides your daughter’s insurance coverage.

1Create your USA Lacrosse parent account

Go to usalacrosse.com and click the red “Join” button in the top right corner
Create an account using your parent information (this will be the household owner account)

2Add your child / athlete

Log in
Click “My Household Users”
Click the “+” to add your athlete
Fill in athlete information (double check DOB and name spelling)

3Purchase a membership

Click “Buy/Renew Memberships”
Toggle your athlete ON (left side of their name)
Click “Proceed to Checkout” (youth membership, 22U, is currently $35)

4Complete age verification

Log in and make sure the player has an active membership
Go to “My Household Users”
Click the pencil icon by the player’s name
Scroll down to “Edit Age Verification”
Upload a valid document (birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, or state ID)

This is a manual process. You will receive an email when it is approved. Age verification must be completed within 15 days, or the membership is suspended and her insurance coverage goes with it. There is no course or training for players to complete. Just these steps.

HOW WE COMMUNICATE

TeamSnap is our home base for the schedule, RSVPs, weather calls, and weekly notes. A private team group is where we post drill videos, what to practice at home, and celebrate the girls.

Once your daughter is registered, you will receive our Parent and Player Onboarding Packet: the parent guide, a one page player guide written for her, the at home challenge sheet, the full practice schedule, and exactly what to bring.

A brand new program runs on parent power, and there is a seat for every kind of helper. Pick what fits, whether that is an hour at practice or a voice at the table.

Practice + Event Volunteer
Help at practices, the equipment table, water and snacks, photos, or the Lionheart Games festival.

Team Advisory Council
Meet a few times a season to help shape the program: schedule, budget, culture, and what comes next.

Team Development
Fundraising, sponsors, merch, and getting the word out so every girl who wants to play finds us.

Coaching
Assistant coach or help run a station. No experience needed. We provide the training and certification.

Here is the easy part: when you register your daughter, the form asks how you would like to help. Check a box, and Coach Mel will reach out. That is it.

Both her team registration and her USA Lacrosse membership must be complete before she steps on the field.
